About Selyse
Rooted in somatic neuroscience, hormonal biology, and the simple belief that women deserve tools that actually work.
The story
Selyse was built by a woman who lived the luteal phase surge for years before understanding the science behind it.
She comes from a medical background and spent years studying how the body responds to stress at a neurological level — and eventually realised the same science applied to what was happening to her every single month.
The information was there. In research papers. In neuroscience journals. In clinical studies. But nobody was translating it into tools that women could actually use.
Selyse exists because the science was not being communicated to women clearly. It is time that changed.
What is actually happening
The HPA Axis
The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is your body's central stress response system. During the luteal phase, this axis becomes dysregulated. Your brain perceives threats that are not there. Your body produces cortisol as if you are in danger. You are not in danger. Your HPA axis is simply responding to a hormonal shift.
Progesterone & Cortisol
Progesterone is your calming hormone. It rises after ovulation and then drops sharply before your period. When progesterone drops, there is nothing to buffer the cortisol spike. The result: anxiety, rage, emotional overwhelm, physical tension. Two hormones, one devastating interaction.
Amygdala Activation
The amygdala is your brain's threat detection centre. During the luteal phase, reduced progesterone means reduced GABA activity — which means your amygdala fires more readily. Every sound is louder. Every comment is sharper. Every situation feels more dangerous than it is. This is neuroscience, not personality.
"Women deserve tools that actually work. Not affirmation cards. Not hot baths. Real, science-backed tools for a real, biological experience."
